Richard Patz, Ph.D., is the Vice President of Research and Product Development. Dr. Patz leads CTB's research, product development, and publishing activities. In this role, he oversees the teams of staff members who develop each assessment published by CTB.

Before assuming the role of Vice President, Dr. Patz worked as a Senior Research Psychometrician at CTB. One of his specialties was the planning and implementation of national standardization studies for norm-referenced tests, such as TerraNova. His publications include articles on statistical methods, vertical scaling of educational tests, standard setting, and assessment design.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Patz was a visiting scholar at the University of California, Berkeley, and at Stanford University. He also served as an independent consultant with clients in government and industry.

Dr. Patz began his career in education as a high school mathematics teacher. He joined CTB in 1996 as a Research Scientist, and in 2006 as the Vice President of Research.
